Man armed with knife shot by deputy in Charles County

WASHINGTON — A man in Waldorf, Maryland — who was armed with a knife — was shot by a deputy Wednesday night.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, it happened around 7 p.m. in the 3000 block of Charleston Court. Deputies were called to that address for a domestic dispute.

When deputies arrived, the man confronted them in the driveway with a knife. The Sheriff’s Office says deputies shot the man when he started moving toward them.

The man was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released any information about possible charges at this time.

New principal takes over at Charles Co. school where aide allegedly exploited children

WASHINGTON — A new principal has taken the reigns of a Charles County, Maryland, school where a teaching assistant was accused of sexually exploiting students. Marvin L. Jones, who holds the title of executive director of schools for the school system, has been assigned to Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, in Waldorf, as its interim principal.
