Trailer drops for ‘Birdman’ director’s next film starring DiCaprio, Hardy

WASHINGTON — He just won Best Picture and Best Director for “Birdman.”

Now, writer/director Alejandro González Iñárritu is adapting Michael Punke’s western novel into the new film “The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson.

Set in the 1820s, DiCaprio plays frontiersman Hugh Glass, who set out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling.

Perhaps most promising is the fact that the film is shot by cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who has won the Oscar for Best Cinematography in back-to-back years with “Birdman” and “Gravity.”

Could this be the one to finally win Leo the Oscar?

The film is set for limited release on Dec. 25, 2015, with a wider release in Jan. 2016.
