Suspects charged in Wheaton Metro shooting

WASHINGTON — Two men have been charged with murder in connection with a shooting Tuesday evening at the Wheaton Metro station.

Douglas Chase, 19, and Brent Sanderson, 18, have been charged with first degree murder.

According to Montgomery County Police, the suspected shooters and Eric Melgar, 20, had a run in on the third level of the parking garage at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

As it escalated, Chase pulled a handgun and starting firing at Melgar, police say they believe.

Melgar was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Investigators aren’t sure what, if any, relationship the suspected shooters had with the victim. A motive is also unclear.

The killing was the second this month in the Metro system.
