SPRINGFIELD, Va. — Fairfax County Police say an autopsy may help identify a woman found floating Sunday in Huntsman Lake in the Springfield, Virginia area.

Kayakers discovered the woman’s body about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, but police believe the woman may have been in the water several days.

Detectives are combing through missing persons reports to try to help identify her. An autopsy may reveal how she died.

“Certainly hoping its an accident where someone fell down into the water as opposed to murder,” Neighbor Reena Roy Mirchandani tells ABC7.

Huntsman Lake is south of Old Keene Mill Road and stretches along a neighborhood north of the Fairfax County Parkway. It is a popular recreation area for walkers, cyclists and people with kayaks and canoes.
