WASHINGTON – The National League East champion Washington Nationals had such a great season, gift-wrapped Nats gear could wind up under plenty of Christmas trees.

But for those who want more than a cap and a team jersey, plans are in the works for a Washington Nationals license plate.

In an effort to start the program, the team is taking applications from Maryland and D.C. drivers for the specially designed Nats plates. Once the program starts and an application is approved, there’ll be a $100 fee for the plate.

The team is promising that a Virginia Nats plate will follow soon.
