U.S. Capitol evacuated due to a report of a fire

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Capitol has been evacuated due to a report of a fire in the Capitol Visitors Center.

Tourists and staffers alike have spilled out onto the streets and walks surrounding the Capitol awaiting word on when they can return.

Firefighters are on scene. There is no sign of smoke.

The Capitol Visitors Center houses a cafeteria and is where tourists can obtain tickets to tour the historical building.
