Freebies for Mother’s Day

WASHINGTON — Nothing says “I love you, mom” like deals and freebies — and many businesses are jumping in by offering free things and deals on Mother’s Day.

Below are some of the options for ways to pamper mom without breaking the bank:

  • Both Red Red Wine Bar and Dry 85 (both in Annapolis) are offering a free mimosa for all moms on Mother’s Day.
  • At Port City Brew in Alexandria, Virginia, the first 50 moms in the tasting room will get OptimalWit and Sugar Shack Donuts.
  • Moms can practice yoga for free on Sunday at Spark Yoga in Arlington, Virginia.
  • The Worthington Manor Golf Club in Urbana, Maryland, is honoring all moms with a free greens fee on Sunday with one paid regular rate 18-hole round.
  • Participating Uno Pizzeria & Grill restaurants will hand out free goody bags to moms on Mother’s Day.
  • Free Mother’s Day concert with WPOC’s On The Verge artist Michael Ray at Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore.
  • Some Alexandria museums, including Gadsby’s Tavern and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apoethecary Museum, are offering free Mother’s Day tours.
  • Participating Fogo de Chao Brazillian Steakhouse restaurants will give a mom who dines on Mother’s Day a complimentary lunch or dinner during her next visit.
  • At participating McCormick & Schmick’s, moms can get a complimentary chocolate-covered strawberry with brunch on Mother’s Day.
  • At participating TGI Fridays, moms can get a ½ bottle of wine through May 10.
  • At Yogurtini in Fairfax, Virginia, moms can get a free 8-ounce cup of yogurt or bubble tea/smoothie May 9 and May 10.
  • At Flight Trampoline Park in Springfield, Virginia, buy one ticket and mom gets in for free on Sunday.
  • The Walrus Oyster & Ale House at National Harbor is offering a free dessert for mom on Mother’s Day.
  • Paddy Barrys Irish Pub and Restaurant in Tysons Corner, Virginia, is offering a free House Appetizer for all moms on Mother’s Day!

RZA came up with a new ice cream truck jingle because the old one was used in minstrel shows

The ice cream truck jingle of your childhood is about to get an upgrade — and RZA is behind it. The hip-hop icon of Wu-Tang fame has teamed up with the ice cream brand Good Humor to re-imagine the signature "Turkey in the Straw" jingle played by ice cream trucks all over the country. Because, as it turns out, the tune has a problematic past.
