Man sentenced for fatal Baltimore-Washington Parkway crash

WASHINGTON — A judge sentenced a Montgomery County man to more than five years in prison for his role in a death on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in 2012.

Earlier this week, U.S. District Judge Roger Titus sentenced 48-year-old Bernando Lloyd — a Silver Spring, Maryland, resident — to 63 months in prison followed by three years of supervised released for involuntary manslaughter connected to a fatal crash on the parkway.

Lloyd was driving a black Lexus on the B-W Parkway in Cheverly, Maryland, at a high rate of speed at about 2 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2012. He was keeping pace with a black Nissan and passing other southbound vehicles in what appeared to be a race.

Lloyd was traveling at about 100 mph on the road with a 45-mph speed limit when he struck a Ford F150 pickup truck from behind in the area of Cheverly, Maryland.

The crash caused the pickup truck to overturn several times and come to a rest with its roof in the center lane. The driver died at the scene from head and neck trauma.

Lloyd’s Lexus bounced to a stop off the highway on the right side.  Lloyd and his passenger were transported to an area hospital, where both were treated for minor injuries and released.
