Red X signs cause confusion for I-66 drivers

WASHINGTON — A problem with the Red X signs caused some confusion on Interstate 66 Monday morning.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says a technical issue is preventing the signs from being changed to the green arrow.

VDOT spokeswoman Jenni McCord tells WTOP that drivers should “Respect the X” and not use that far right lane.

VDOT is sending out crews to turn on the green arrows. The problem affects at least three of the signs.
