Off-duty Montgomery County police officer injured in hit-and-run

WASHINGTON — An off-duty police officer was hurt in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Montgomery County Police Spokesman Pete Piringer says an officer was hit along Wisconsin Avenue at South Park Avenue just before 5 p.m.

The officer is expected to be OK.

The crash caused Wisconsin Avenue to close between South Park Avenue and Willard Avenue for more than an hour. The roadway reopened at about 6:30 p.m.

Police are still searching for the driver who struck the officer as the driver did not stay on the scene.
