WASHINGTON — When Misty Copeland, a soloist with the American Ballet Theatre joins Brooklyn Mack of the Washington Ballet in a performance of Swan Lake, history will be made.

Copeland and Mack will become the first African Americans to dance the leading roles of Odette/Odile and Prince Siegfried in the April 9 and April 12 performances at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater, according to The Root.

Copeland gained notoriety in a popular Under Armour advertising campaign, and Mack was trained at Washington’s Kirov Academy of Ballet and Chicago’s Joffrey Ballet.

The show, with artistic director Septime Webre runs April 8 through April 12, with Copeland dancing the role Thursday, and Sunday evenings.
