Road closures set for Easter Sunday in Old Town

WASHINGTON – Alexandria police have announced several road closures in Old Town Sunday morning due to expected heavy church traffic.

Churchgoers and other travelers are urged to give themselves extra time and to use alternate routes to get to church this Easter Sunday.

The following roads will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 5:

  • Route 1 northbound will be closed from Franklin Street to Prince Street. Northbound traffic will be diverted onto eastbound Franklin.
  • Duke Street will be closed from Henry Street/Route 1 to Columbus Street. Eastbound traffic on Duke Street will be diverted southbound on Route 1.
  • Alfred Street, near the Alfred Street Baptist Church, will be closed from Duke Street to Wolfe Street.
