Fire causes $1M in damage at Reston condo complex

WASHINGTON – A fire at a Reston condominium complex early Tuesday caused more than $1 million damage and took two hours to completely extinguish.

The cause of the 1:20 a.m. fire at 11404 Gate Hill Place is still under investigation.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department says more than 100 firefighters responded to the scene. Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire, even though part of the roof had collapsed.

Of the 18 condos in the building, the fire damaged nine of them. Five units sustained major fire, smoke and water damage. Four other units had light to moderate damage. The fire displaced about 18 people.

People living in the remaining nine units went back to their homes after the electricity was restored.

One resident was treated at the scene and released.
