‘Super Troopers 2’ speeds past crowdfunding goal

WASHINGTON — In 2001, it became a cult comedy classic.

Now, the comic minds behind “Super Troopers” have launched an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign to raise money for a sequel, “Super Troopers 2.″

Broken Lizard set a goal to raise $2 million over the next month, but a little over 24 hours later, it has already broken that fundraising goal.

Before the funds were raised, Fox Searchlight said it agreed to distribute the sequel in North America if the crowdfunding succeeded and that shooting would start this summer.

The original film, following five state troopers in Vermont, grossed $23.2 million worldwide and sparked pop culture meows by the likes of Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez.
