Raccoon causes power outage in Manassas

WASHINGTON – A raccoon caused a large power outage in Manassas, Va. Sunday night.

Unfortunately for it, the raccoon didn’t make it.

The 4-legged mammal hopped a fence into a power substation near Manassas Regional Airport around 10:30 p.m. and was electrocuted, subsequently shorting the power to 4,500 customers.

Crews retrieved the animal’s body and restored power within an hour. They plan to inspect the substation in daylight.
