Girl injured after being struck by car in Suitland

WASHINGTON — A girl was taken to a hospital with what the police are calling “critical injuries” Tuesday morning after being struck by a car in Suitland, Maryland.

It happened just after 9 a.m. near Pennsylvania Avenue and Brooks Drive, the Prince George’s County police said.

The driver of the car remained on the scene.

WTOP’s news partner, NBC Washington, says the girl is 11 years old and was headed to Drew-Freeman Middle School.

The investigation is ongoing, and eastbound Pennsylvania Avenue was closed between Brooks Drive and Silver Hill Road for several hours, reopening at about 1:30 p.m.
