Study: Milk could help people live longer and skinnier

WASHINGTON – There’s a new reason to make sure you’ve “Got Milk.” It could help you live longer and stay skinnier.

A vitamin found in milk helped keep mice skinny in a new study, even when they ate high fat diets. It also helped build their endurance, allowing them to run longer.

European researchers say in the journal Cell Metabolism that’s a sign Nicotinamide Riboside might be an effective supplement to boost metabolism and treat some age-related disorders.

Nicotinamide Riboside is a variant of a B vitamin that also apparently boosts cells’ power plants — the mitochondria — giving more endurance along with other benefits.

Past research has pointed to Nicotinamide Riboside is also important to keeping nerve cells from deteriorating over time.
