Lockdown lifted at Manassas Park elementary schools

WASHINGTON — Manassas Park and Cougar elementary schools were on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after two young men — one carrying a rifle — were seen outside near the school campus.

Both men were apprehended by officials and all students and staff are safe, according to a Manassas Park City Schools statement.

A school bus driver noticed the two men around 3 p.m. and officials immediately locked down the school, allowing no one to leave or enter the school.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the lockdown was lifted and students began heading home by their normal means.
