Metro to stay open late on New Year’s Eve

WASHINGTON — Metro will stay open until 2 a.m. New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day, the transit agency announced Thursday.

Like a typical Sunday, Metro will charge off-peak fares all day and parking at stations will be free.

Holiday revelers will not encounter Metro track work.

The rail system ran until 3 a.m. last New Year’s Eve, with free rides after midnight.

On New Year’s Day itself, as well as Christmas Day, the rail system will run on a Sunday schedule, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

No sponsorship deal has been signed for this year.

 

Metro airs ad during college football championship to win back rush-hour riders

WASHINGTON — A Metro ad that aired across the D.C. area during the second quarter of college football’s National Championship Monday night is part of the agency’s efforts to convince rush-hour riders to stick with the transit system. The ad, first put out more than a year ago, promised that Metro recognizes the problems facing the system, and will get “Back2Good.”
