1 dead after crash on I-495

WASHINGTON — One person is dead after a car drove off the road on Interstate 495 and crashed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the shoulder early Thursday morning.

The crash occurred at around 3:40 a.m. near Alexandria, Virginia.

A tractor-trailer was stopped along the westbound lanes of I-495, near exit 173. The car ran off the road and struck the rear of the tractor-trailer, Virginia State Police say. The driver of the car, identified later as Christopher Padilla, 30, of Alexandria, died at the scene.
