KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee quarterback Nathan Peterman is starting in place of an injured Justin Worley in the Volunteers’ game Saturday with No. 4 Alabama.

Peterman was announced as Tennessee’s starting quarterback when the lineups were announced over the Neyland Stadium loudspeaker shortly before the opening kickoff.

Worley hurt his shoulder last week in a 34-3 loss at No. 3 Mississippi. Tennessee coach Butch Jones said all week that Worley’s status for the Alabama game was unclear. Jones had indicated this week that both Peterman and sophomore Joshua Dobbs could play against Alabama if Worley were unable to go.

In eight career games before this one, Peterman had gone 18 of 38 for 84 yards with two interceptions and no touchdown passes.
