Crystal City BID proposes pedestrian walkway to Reagan National

WASHINGTON — The Crystal City Business Improvement District revealed its vision for a pedestrian walkway linking Crystal City to Reagan National Airport at public meetings this week.

The pedestrian connection would cut the walk to the airport from 15 minutes to less than 5.

There currently is no commitment from Arlington County to pursue the project. But the Crystal City BID is working with Virginia Railway Express and the county, hoping to be part of their sector plan, and so the bridge could be built within the next three to six years.

The BID said the walkway would enhance long-term economic development opportunities in the area by linking workers and residents to a growing regional rail network.

The elevated bridge would incorporate moving sidewalks and provide access to the Mount Vernon Trail.
