Obama, first lady to salute US troops on Nov. 6

WASHINGTON (AP) — Mary J. Blige and Willie Nelson are joining President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for a salute to U.S. troops.

The White House says the Nov. 6 event will be held on the South Lawn.

The program is the latest installment in the “In Performance at the White House” series and will air on PBS stations nationwide on Nov. 7.

Other performers are Common, John Fogerty and Romeo Santos. The rock band Daughtry will perform via satellite from Japan.

High school students from Washington-area military communities will participate in a special workshop before the concert.

Mrs. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden’s wife, Jill, launched a nationwide program in 2011 to rally the country in support of its service members.
