BALTIMORE (AP) — The National Rifle Association has endorsed Republican Larry Hogan in the Maryland governor’s race.

The organization said Monday the endorsement is based on Hogan’s commitment to Second Amendment rights. The NRA cited Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown’s support for Maryland’s sweeping gun-control law last year for choosing Hogan.

Brown, a Democrat, his highlighted his support for the law. He has criticized Hogan in ads over gun-control issues. Brown has urged Hogan to release a questionnaire that got him an A- grade from the NRA. Brown got an F from the group.

Hogan says he wouldn’t try to change the law, and he doesn’t plan to release the questionnaire. He says it’s a distraction from economic issues that voters care about.
