Richmond shuts out Rhode Island 37-0

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — David Jones had a fumble recovery and two interceptions — one for a 34-yard touchdown — to lead Richmond in a 37-0 shutout of Rhode Island on Saturday.

Jones scored early in the third quarter to give Richmond (5-2, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association) a 30-0 lead.

The Spiders defense created six turnovers with most of them at the expense of Rhode Island’s freshman quarterback. James Caparell finished 2 of 14 for 27 yards and was pulled early in the third quarter after his fourth interception led to Jones’ TD return.

Michael Rocco was 17 of 31 for 162 yards and a touchdown, managing the Spiders offense with no turnovers. Jacobi Green ran nine times for 91 yards and a touchdown, and Reggie Diggs had six catches for 78 yards and a score.

Harold Cooper had 98 yards rushing for Rhode Island (0-7, 0-3).
