Presbyterian beats Charleston Southern 7-3

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — DaRon Dickey and Shonquille Byers had interceptions and Presbyterian recorded three sacks and eight tackles for loss to beat Charleston Southern 7-3 on Saturday.

Demarcus Rouse accounted for 66 of 70 yards on Presbyterian’s opening drive, including a 48-yard touchdown run.

It stayed 7-0 until 1:29 left in the half, when Charleston Southern (5-2, 0-1 Big South) took advantage of a short punt to go 36 yards on six plays, settling for David Kennedy’s 27-yard field goal. The big play of the drive was Austin Brown’s 23-yard completion to Nathan Perera, which gave the Buccaneers a first down at the 15.

Charleston had first-and-10 at their 48 with 1:21 left after a pass interference penalty, but Brown was sacked by Ugonna Akoh — one of three for the day for the Blue Hose — and a pair of incompletions sealed the victory for Presbyterian (4-3, 1-1).
