THURMONT, Md. (AP) — An auction in Thurmont promises collectibles from a restaurant near Camp David that closed last spring after 85 years in business.

Mosby & Company says its auction Monday of items from the Cozy Restaurant includes a bearskin rug made from an animal reputedly shot by Herbert Hoover.

Auctioneer Keith Spurgeon says the rug was a gift from Hoover’s secretary to the Freeze family, which owned the eatery. It’s among the items from a modest Camp David Museum that was part of the restaurant.

The Cozy claimed to be Maryland’s oldest restaurant still run by its founding family when it shut down in June. Public records showed the restaurant owed nearly $180,000 in federal and state taxes.
