No. 3 Mississippi’s Elston suspended for half

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi safety Trae Elston has been suspended for the first half of Saturday’s game against Texas A&M after kicking Alabama running back Kenyan Drake following a play during last weekend’s game.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze announced the suspension on Monday afternoon during a press conference. Southeastern Conference official Chuck Dunlap said in an email that the conference will take no further action.

Freeze said Elston made a “bad decision” on the play and “that’s not the way we want to go about things.”

Drake suffered a broken leg on the play after being tackled and landing awkwardly. Elston’s foot swiped Drake after the play was over.

No. 3 Ole Miss (5-0, 2-0 SEC) travels to face No. 14 Texas A&M (5-1, 2-1) on Saturday.
