SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — Three lawsuits have been filed against Salisbury and its police department in recent weeks alleging excessive force by police officers.

In a lawsuit filed this week, The Daily Times (http://delmarvane.ws/1vG3FlL ) reports three Salisbury University students say their constitutional rights were violated.

The lawsuit stems from an incident the morning of Aug. 24. Twenty-one-year-old Darryle Smith says he was pulled over for a traffic stop. He gave one officer his license, and another officer pointed a gun at him. Smith says their car was searched but nothing illegal was found. Smith was given a traffic warning for failing to give his turn signal for 100 feet before turning.

Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton says the city and police won’t comment.

Two other lawsuits filed in September also allege excessive force.
