The Associated Press

In this photo by A.M. Ahad, a devotee plays the flute near the idol of Hindu goddess Durga during the first day of Durga Puja celebrations in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and Hindus celebrate by singing and dancing and visiting temples. They also may eat special foods or fast during the festival. Nearly 10 percent of Bangladesh’s population is Hindu, which is the world’s third-largest religion.
