WASHINGTON — There will be more bikes at some parks in Montgomery County.
Montgomery Parks announced it is teaming up with Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Zagster, Inc. to bring a bike-share program to Black Hill Regional Park and Wheaton Regional Park.
“There are some fantastic paved trailed as these parks,” said Casey Anderson, the Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board in a news release. “Through this partnership with Zagster, people can simply grab a bike and go. What a great way to experience the outdoors.”
The program, which launched Thursday, includes 10 eight-gear-bikes, five at each park, and one recumbent tricycle. Each bike has automatic lights, a bell and a front basket.
Riders will have to download the Zagster app and enroll for free, but riders without a smartphone can text SMS to (202) 999-3924 to learn how to ride by text messages.
Rides less than two hours are free, but after two hours, riders will have to pay $3 per-hour to keep using the bikes.
