Kentucky man arrested on Virginia robbery charge

EOLIA, Ky. (AP) — An eastern Kentucky man is awaiting extradition to Virginia to face an armed robbery charge.

Kentucky State Police Trooper James Fields says officers arrested William Howard Sawyer of Blackey, Kentucky, during a traffic stop on Friday. Fields says troopers recognized Sawyer’s truck from an alert from police in Pound, Virginia.

Virginia police say Sawyer took part in an armed robbery of the FasMart store in Pound, but fled to Kentucky afterward.

Sawyer was being held in the Letcher County Jail and is awaiting transport to Virginia. Jail records did not list an attorney for Sawyer.
