GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A District of Columbia man has been sentenced to nine and a half years in prison stemming from two armed robberies in Prince George’s County.

Twenty-eight-year-old Gregory Evans pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime.

He was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Greenbelt.

Evans’ attorney declined to comment Thursday.

Prosecutors say Evans robbed a store in Capital Heights on Jan. 22 with other suspects, forcing an employee to open the cash register at gunpoint and stealing hundreds of dollars. An hour later, Evans and two other suspects robbed a District Heights liquor store.

Prosecutors say in the second robbery, Evans pointed a gun at employees and ordered them to lie on the ground.
