Henrico County man’s capital murder trial begins

HENRICO, Va. (AP) — A Henrico County man is on trial on capital murder and other charges.

Jamon Tavondrick Burroughs’ trial began Monday in Henrico Circuit Court. He is accused of killing convenience store owner Farooq M. Bhimdi on Jan. 28, 2013.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1rkU4jQ ) reports that jurors viewed video from surveillance cameras in the store. The video shows Burroughs arguing with the 64-year-old Bhimdi and then shooting him with a handgun.

Burroughs also is charged with robbery, burglary and weapons counts.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor is not seeking the death penalty.
