WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama used his weekly media message to promote his policies aimed at blunting Islamic State militants who control large swaths of Iraq and Syria.
Emphasizing that it’s not just America’s fight, Obama repeated his vow not to commit troops to fighting another ground war in Iraq, or Syria.
Obama says more than 40 countries have offered to help the broad campaign against the Islamic State group, including air strikes as well as training and equipment for moderate Syrian rebels.
For the Republicans, the topic was energy and jobs. Commenting on six years of delays of the Keystone oil pipeline, Colorado Rep. Cory Gardner called on the president to stop blocking responsible energy development on public lands and end regulatory overreach. He says that’s blocked jobs “and left too many behind.”
