Garth Brooks to honor Jay Leno with humor prize

WASHINGTON (AP) — Garth Brooks is joining the lineup of entertainers including Jimmy Fallon who will honor Jay Leno with the nation’s top humor prize at the Kennedy Center in October.

The performing arts center said Friday that Brooks will help present the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor to Leno, but Brooks will not perform at the show on Oct. 19 in Washington.

The center previously announced that Fallon will lead top comedians in saluting his “Tonight Show” predecessor with the prize. He will be joined by Chelsea Handler, Jerry Seinfeld, Wanda Sykes, Betty White, Kevin Eubanks and others in honoring Leno.

The prize recognizes people who have had an impact on American society through their humor and social commentary.

The show will be broadcast nationally Nov. 23 on PBS stations.
