WASHINGTON — A man who worked as a cook and a driver for a Kinder Care Learning Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland, has been arrested and charged with the sexual abuse of a 3-year-old girl.

Raul Teroy Tuban, 56, of Montgomery Village has been charged with the sexual abuse of a minor and a third degree sex offense of a minor, Montgomery County police said.

The incident occurred in October, according to police, when a girl woke up from a nap to find Tuban touching her.

The incident was reported to police in November. When questioned, police said, Tuban gave them “inconsistent statements” regarding his alleged contact with the victim.

Zibby Pillote, a communications associate with Kinder Care Learning Centers said in a statement that Tuban was immediately placed on administrative leave when they learned of the allegations.

“All of our center employees go through the same national and state background checks [as teachers] — even cooks and drivers,” Pillote said.

“We won’t make any final decisions about his employment until the police investigation is complete.”

The investigation remains open, Montgomery County police said; if parents have concerns about contacts their children may have had with Tuban, they can call police at 240-773-5400.
