WASHINGTON — A Stafford, Virginia, man has been charged with reckless driving and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle following a Thursday morning crash on Route 1 that involved a sheriff’s deputy. George Lee Murdock, 57, crashed into a marked Stafford Sheriff’s Office Ford Taurus, driven by Deputy R. T. Kulbeth, when he made a U-turn directly in front of him at around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Stafford County police said Kulbeth was driving south on Route 1 near Stafford Hospital, responding to an emergency call with his blue lights and sirens activated. After the vehicles collided, Kulbeth’s cruiser overturned and crashed into a power pole, dropping power lines across Route 1. Officials said Murdock’s vehicle spun and turned on its side. The front axle and passenger side tire of his vehicle dislocated and crashed into the windshield of a third vehicle.
