ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Switch-hitting utilityman Guilder Rodriguez has made his major league debut after 13 seasons and 1,095 games in the minors.

Rodriguez started at second base and batted ninth for the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.

The 31-year-old Rodriguez had the most minor league games for any current player without any major league experience. The Rangers purchased his contract from Double-A Frisco on Sunday after the RoughRiders were eliminated from the Texas League playoffs.

Rangers interim manager Tim Bogar posted the lineup for the series opener against the Los Angeles Angels without telling Rodriguez his name would be on it. The manager says he wanted Rodriguez to get to feel the moment when he saw his name on the card in a major league clubhouse.
