Truck slams into sheriff’s office; driver shot

SINTON, Texas (AP) — Investigators say a man was shot dead after his pickup truck slammed into the front entrance of a South Texas sheriff’s office and he opened fire.

The incident happened Monday morning at the San Patricio County sheriff’s office in Sinton. Sheriff Leroy Moody says the truck slammed into the office and the driver fired at least four shots at the building with a .45-caliber pistol before a deputy fatally shot him.

Moody says no one in the sheriff’s building was injured. He identified the dead driver as 45-year-old Benito Gonzales of Sinton. Moody said Gonzales had no previous dealings with the sheriff’s office.

The Texas Rangers are investigating.

Sinton is 18 miles northwest of Corpus Christi.
