Giants’ Pierre-Paul returns after injury scare

DETROIT (AP) — New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has returned early in the second quarter after an early injury scare Monday night against the Detroit Lions.

Pierre-Paul was taken in for X-rays on his neck after hurting himself in the first quarter. He stayed down for a while as team personnel attended to him, but he was able to walk off the field.

Pierre-Paul had 16 1/2 sacks in 2011, but he had back surgery before last season and didn’t seem to be 100 percent. He ended up with only two sacks in 11 games.

Lions tackle LaAdrian Waddle went down with a calf injury in the first half, and cornerback Bill Bentley hurt his knee. Giants linebacker Devon Kennard hurt his hamstring.
