Nguyen scores twice; Revolution beats KC 3-1

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Lee Nguyen scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season to give the New England Revolution a 3-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night.

New England (11-12-3) took its first lead 3 minutes after halftime. An unmarked Nguyen settled a cross at the top of the box and bent a shot past goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum. Nguyen added another goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time after forcing a defensive turnover.

Kansas City (12-9-6), second in the Eastern Conference, lost its third consecutive game. Sporting’s goal came in the ninth minute on Soony Saad’s header.

New England evened it at 1 right before halftime. Teal Bunbury won a 1-on-1 battle and blasted a shot past Gruenebaum.

U.S. international player Jermaine Jones made his first MLS start for New England.
