UMd. building evacuated after threat

WASHINGTON — An anonymous phone call warned University of Maryland officials on Wednesday that an armed man was holding a hostage in the main administration building.

The threat turned out to be baseless, the university says in a news release.

The call came at 3:27 p.m., prompting evacuation of the administration building and police sweeps of nearby Lee and Mitchell buildings, the release states.

The university is investigating the incident.
