UNDATED (AP) — The Standard & Poor’s 500 is ending the week at a record high. The latest reports on the U.S. economy were mixed. Consumer sentiment improved in August, while spending fell and income growth slowed in July. The S&P 500 rose 6 ½ points today to finish at 2,003. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 19 points to 17,098. The Nasdaq rose 22 ½ points to 4,580.
UNDATED (AP) — Oil prices are up today for the fourth day in a row on concerns about the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, the biggest oil exporter outside of OPEC. Benchmark U.S. crude rose $1.41 to close at $95.96 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, a benchmark for international oils used by many U.S. refineries, rose 73 cents to close at $103.19 in London.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s state-owned oil company is estimating its crude production will increase to 2.4 million barrels per day in 2015, compared with the 2.35 million barrels per day it expects to output this year. A Petroleos Mexicanos official says the estimate is based on Pemex’s plans to re-activate hundreds of mature oil fields and start production in recently discovered reserves.
NEW YORK (AP) — Orbitz says it has reached an agreement that will allow it to continue selling American Airlines and US Airways tickets on its sites. The company also says tickets previously bought on its sites are still valid. On Tuesday, American and US Airways pulled flight listings from Orbitz sites as part of a dispute over the fees Orbitz charges to list and sell the flights.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The executive board of the International Monetary Fund is expressing confidence in IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde after receiving a briefing on a French corruption probe in which Lagarde is being investigated. Lagarde called the investigation “without basis” after answering questions before magistrates in Paris on Wednesday.
