WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County Sheriff’s deputies are hunting for Kenneth Kelley of Southeast D.C. — the driver who killed five people in a drunken driving crash, nearly three years ago, then failed to show up for his sentencing Friday.

Kelley had been free on $100,000 bond.

The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office said it is investigating why Kelley’s GPS monitor was removed two weeks ago and which private company was in charge of it.

“My heart just goes right out to the family members sitting there, I know their anguish,” said Jan Withers of Maryland Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Family members of three women and two children killed in the 2014 Oxon Hill crash were saddened and outraged that Kelley eluded sentencing Friday on charges including five counts of negligent homicide and drunken driving.

“This is just a terrible reminder that so many children and their mothers aren’t with their families because of the drunken drivers who kill them,” Withers said.

Judge Albert Northrop who freed Kelley on bond promises that Kelley will be held behind bars once he is back in custody.
