Bryce Harper, Nationals agree to $21.65M deal for 2018

WASHINGTON — The Nationals have agreed to terms with right fielder Bryce Harper on a one-year-deal for 2018, essentially buying out the four-time All-Star’s remaining arbitration year. Harper, just 24, is hitting .372 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 31 games this season. He will make a reported $21.65M with a $1 million bonus should he be named the National League’s most valuable player next season, an award he won after the 2015 season. The Nationals’ 2018 agreement with Harper is the largest one-year deal for an arbitration-eligible player in history.

Harper, a 2015 Silver Slugger Award winner, is making $13.625M this season for the first place Nationals. The 2012 Rookie of the Year will be eligible to become a free agent in 2019.
