WASHINGTON — Police have arrested a Woodbridge, Virginia, man who they say broke into a woman’s home multiple times and assaulted her last week.

Joshua Barrett, 27, was arrested Monday in Arlington, Prince William County police said.

Barrett first broke into a woman’s residence in Woodbridge on April 27, according to police. He hit the 23-year-old woman several times and prevented her from leaving, police said. He took off before police arrived.

But after police left, Barrett entered the residence once more, and the victim called the police again. Barrett was able to get away a second time.

Barrett then broke into the woman’s home for a third time around 1:30 a.m. on April 28, police said.

She was asleep in her room when Barrett broke in, woke her up and smashed one of her phones so she couldn’t call police. He was stealing liquor from her car when the victim called police. Barrett ran off again before police arrived.

According to police, the suspect is “an acquaintance” to the victim.

Barrett has been charged with multiple counts of burglary, domestic assault and battery, and preventing the summoning of law enforcement, as well as a count each of abduction, grand larceny and destruction of property.
