Partial DC trench collapse injures 4 construction workers

WASHINGTON — Four workers were injured at a construction site on the H Street Corridor Monday morning after a partial trench collapse.

Crews arrived at the site in the 300 block of H Street Northeast around 9:15 a.m. and found that three of the workers had escaped the 25-foot excavation on their own, said D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo. The last person had to be carried out due to injuries.

Three of the four construction workers were taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries and two with moderate injuries. A fourth person was being evaluated at the site.

The accident briefly closed the 300 block of H Street Northeast.

D.C. police are investigating the incident.
