COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Branchville Volunteer Fire Co. and Rescue Squad is looking for the owner of two dogs found out in the cold. The dogs were found Tuesday night by the Wawa in the 10500 block of Rhode Island Avenue in Beltsville, Maryland, and were brought in by someone coming back from a firefighting class. “They opened the doors [of their car] and they jumped right in,” Branchville Fire Capt. Spiro Dimakas said.

The mom and her pup look to be well cared for, and Dimakas suspects the dogs escaped from their home. “They’re very well fed. She’s [the mother] got great teeth, and their paws obviously aren’t something that they have been out there for a long time,” Dimakas said. “We think they came from a house, maybe cutting through a fence.  She’s got some cuts on her neck, so possibly she came through a fence.” Dimakas is hoping one of the owners will see the dogs in the news and will claim them. But for now, the mother will be going to the Greenbelt Animal Shelter. The puppy is going to be staying with the public safety dispatchers for Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications.
