MONCTON, New Brunswick (AP) — A man charged with fatally shooting three Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers and wounding two others in June has been found fit to stand trial.

Justin Bourque, 24, faces three first-degree murder charges and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the shootings.

The killings and ensuing manhunt brought the city of Moncton, New Brunswick, to a near-standstill until an arrest was made about 30 hours later.

A provincial court judge said Thursday that a psychiatric assessment concluded Bourque is competent and mentally fit for trial.

Bourque’s case is adjourned until Aug. 8.

He has not yet entered a plea.
